About the Character:
TINKER BELL (Any Age, Gender, and Ethnicity) The fairy bound to Peter until his dream is complete and is determined to keep that dream alive at any cost. Written as a snarky, grizzled New York mob boss. Self-described as a gender-fluid agent of chaos. Can be played as any age or gender.
About the Play:
A darkly comedic postmodern reimagining of Peter Pan. Wendy is gone, and a college-aged Peter considers leaving Neverland. As her fantasy unravels, Tinker Bell recruits two new arrivals—a “Lost Boy” and a “Wendy 2.0”—and sends them on a secret mission to kill Captain Hook. But as the newcomers confront their existential baggage, they uncover unsettling truths buried in Neverland’s past. A contemporary, darkly comedic feminist and queer-positive not-quite sequel, not-quite adaptation, this is a story for young adult audiences about mental health, identity, and the seductive trap of eternal adolescence.
CONNOR
Where’s Peter?
TINKER BELL
Don’t know, don’t care. So you didn’t kill Hook yet?
CONNOR
Yet?
TINKER BELL
Yes. You have one job. Kill the pirate, you go home.
I could not have been more clear.
CONNOR
Yes you could have!
If you need Hook dead so badly, why can’t--?
TINKER BELL
OK, fine.
A beat.
TINKER BELL
Fine. What you gotta understand... when someone makes a perfect wish--powerful. Dangerous. Controlling you more than you can ever dream of controlling it. That’s when a fairy is born. They’re bound to that kid’s side until the dream is “complete”. But a fairy only lives as long as the dream does.
Dreams are fleeting, and most kids don’t focus long enough to have a dream really worth sinking your teeth into. So none of us are living long enough to care about life, except lucky ol’ me. Hundred years ago, some stargazin’ little skid-mark wished me into existence. And the day he says playtime’s over... the dream is “complete”. My life is over. And I recede back into the sky or wherever the hell I came from. So pay no mind to the fairy doing everything in her power--at any cost--to keep that fool as lost as he can be.
Not that I expect Connor Forsyth to appreciate that. Yeah, I saw you writing that--what were you writing? That night Peter Pan swept you off your feet?
Connor swallows.
CONNOR
A suicide note.
TINKER BELL
That’s right. Over what? You can’t get into the magazine? Miss Teen Indiana’s better than you in every measurable way? You’ll fit right in. One of the boys, finally. Watch that brooding brain turn to mush on cheap beer and pretend food, just like all the others. Welcome to Neverland, kid. Stay as long as you like.
CONNOR
What does this have to do with Hook?
TINKER BELL
Everything.
